WHO CAN KNOW GOD?

By Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams - Posted 28th June 2017

Job 11:7-9

“Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?
They are higher than the heavens above—what can you do? They are deeper than the depths below—what can you know? Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea.

After several years of living on earth and after several generations have come and gone, humanity still struggles with the question, “who is God?”, “what does He look like?’’ How can we be sure He is there”? These questions have been of old and still are today. The human mind says there can be no true answers to these questions. The mind that is enlightened by God’s Spirit sees differently.

Job the patient man gives us his impressions of the God who allowed him to go through challenging situations that he thought were beyond his ability, yet he came out better than before. The questions he raises in this short piece above have the answers. Any man who wants to figure God out using his natural thinking is engaged in a big joke. No man can know God in his human thinking because God is bigger than any man’s brain. He is too big to be subjected to test tube experiments in the laboratory.

Each of us needs a firm impression in our hearts regarding who God is and what He is to us. Without that, a lot of our life’s activities will be without meaning. It will just be routine day after day. Knowing all about God will take a lifetime; and that means you continue seeking Him all your life. He has no limits and that is what explains the difficulty the scientists and philosophers of the world have trying to figure Him out. For us who believe, He is the God who is always there for us anytime, anywhere.

Prayer

1.      Ask God to lift you beyond the limitations of human thinking and place you in the realm of the Spirit of Truth, where there are no blindfolds.

2.     Pray that your knowledge of God will increase for each day that He wakes you from sleep and gives you life.

3.     Father, open the eyes of my heart, I want to see You in Your glorious beauty, in Your power and might, in Your wisdom and sovereignty. I need You every hour.

Declarations

My God is mightier than anyone. None of the gods of this world matches Him. His ways are not the ways of men and are certainly higher than the ways of men. No man can fight my God and win. No one is as wise as He is; so I am safe and secure in Him and I am more than a conqueror in the name Jesus.
